As the countdown begins to the launch of Emirates flights to Boston, the airline’s Sri Lanka office has announced a special inaugural fare from Colombo to the American heritage city that is an international centre of higher education and medicine. On sale up to 15 April and valid for outbound travel from 10 March to 30 April 2014, the special tax-inclusive return fare of Rs. 194,500 on Economy Class represents a noteworthy saving, the airline said. A global connector of people and places, Emirates commences daily flights from Dubai to Boston’s Logan International Airport on 10 March with GE-90 engine-powered Boeing 777-200LR aircraft. Boston will be the award-winning airline’s eighth route in to the USA. “Boston is an important destination for Sri Lankans,” said Emirates Area Manager for Sri Lanka and Maldives Chandana de Silva. “It is a hub for business and finance, and the Greater Boston area is home to more than 100 universities and colleges, some of which are popular among Sri Lankan students. The launch of Emirates services to Boston will therefore be welcomed by many.” Emirates operates 27 flights a week from Colombo to Dubai, offering convenient connections to Emirates flight EK237 that will depart Dubai at 0945hrs daily from 10 March, and arrive in Boston at 1515hrs. The return flight, EK 238, will take off from Boston at 2255hrs and land in Dubai at 1910hrs the next day. Adding to the convenience is Emirates’ agreement with JetBlue, under which Emirates and JetBlue passengers are able to travel on each other’s flights and earn reciprocal miles. Boston is one of JetBlue’s hub cities in the USA, allowing Emirates’ passengers arriving in Boston convenient connections to over 28 onward domestic US destinations. Aboard the Emirates Boeing 777-200LR serving Boston, customers in all classes will be able to relish gourmet chef prepared food, while browsing through up to 1,600 channels of movies, TV, music and games on the ice Digital Widescreen in-flight entertainment system. Highly trained, multi-lingual cabin crew are on hand to deliver the warmest hospitality in the skies. Emirates started flights to America in 2004, beginning with New York. The airline’s current seven US gateways form part of a 141-destination network, served by a fleet of more than 200 modern aircraft, including the airline’s flagship Airbus A380. Boston will be the third new destination to be added to the Emirates network in 2014 after Kiev on 16 January and Taipei on 10 February.
