Ex-Marriott’s Stohl CEO at The Kingsbury

Otto M. Stohl, a former Marriott International executive, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of The Kingsbury, Sri Lanka’s latest luxury five star brand.



Stohl was born and raised in Austria. At the age of 15 he started his long career in the Hospitality Industry. In the 1980s Stohl joined Marriott International for 26 years at many properties across four brands and four continents. During his long term assignment with Marriott Intl., Stohl was growing his experience and building up his career.

Stohl has held positions of General Manager (property based and Regional Office), Hotel Manager, Resort Manager, Director of Operations, EAM and DF&B for global hotel companies as well as private companies and has served in many capacities in the hospitality industry. He has a thorough knowledge of business and leisure markets both in business and resort operations.

Stohl enjoys working in challenging environments, and has extensive international experience in opening hotels. He is skilled at organising complex projects, defining project priorities, budgeting, process implementation, FFE and staffing both pre- and post-opening phases.

His major strengths are in finance, critical thinking, planning, problem solving and communication, attention to detail and ability to work well in a diverse team environment.

Stohl joined The Kingsbury in the capacity of CEO for its hotel opening in Colombo.

As an International Hotel Executive, he has to move from one place to the other and his wife Inga and their seven-year-old daughter Judith and five-year old-son Joel do ravel with him.

His personal interests are classic literature, classic music and concerts, rock music – from the ’60s to the ’70s, likes to work around in his garden and his house, loves good food – preferably from Asia – and good wines, and is a passionate motorcycle rider.
