Adorning the hill capital of Kandy is the newest of the John Keells resorts, Cinnamon Citadel Kandy. Set in the richness of historic aestheticism, yet portraying all the elements of modern and contemporary luxuries is the uniqueness that embellishes the personality of this newest addition to the Cinnamon family of hotels and resorts which opened in September.

Cinnamon Citadel has a unique disposition that manages to retain relics of its impressive past but enjoys the present day importance as a buzzing metropolis. Contemporary yet historic, modern, yet aesthetic, this magnificent establishment boasts of 119 rooms set in elegant chic splendour.

For Sector Head, Sri Lankan Resorts, John Keells Hotels, Jayantissa Kehelpannala, Cinnamon Citadel is all about blending past grandeur with present day modernism. “The whole ethos of the Cinnamon brand is of indulgence and that is exactly what we have at Cinnamon Citadel, comfort, creativity and discovery,” he said.

This is truly showcased in the facilities at the resort, whether in its gastronomic discoveries, well-appointed rooms or the well-equipped Wi-Fi enabled conference hall. The resort is an ideal location for business conferences and workshops for a maximum of 80 people or for destination weddings in true Kandyan style, where guests can be housed in rooms that permeate warmth and comfort.

All the facilities of this luxurious hotel amalgamate in true visual splendour against an amazing scenic view of hilly, lush greenery. Looking out over the Mahaweli and the hills beyond is the hotel’s main restaurant.

Its large deck looks out into open space, artfully dotted with Dumbara woven screens and an 18 foot hand embroidered wall hanging by genius design doyenne Ena de Silva. A wine wall adds to the ambience of the restaurant in which renowned master chefs serve up some culinary wonders on the expansive marble buffet.

Just below the panoramic view from the deck is the café by the pool.  It is an ideal spot for merry making or a light refreshing meal at any time of the day. The deck is also adorned with cane chairs, a DJ station and an upper area open to the sky. There is no better way to unwind than to revel in the smooth tunes whilst sipping on exceptional cocktails under a canopy of stars.

“This is what the Cinnamon brand is all about,” explains Kehelpannala. “Our properties urge our guests to embark on a journey of discovery and adventure, which ultimately make for great stories and memories.”

“So whether it is to enjoy excursions to historic places like the Temple of the Tooth Relic, the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage and a host of other attractions that Kandy is famed for, or to just discover Kandy in its contemporary yet traditional demeanour while imbibing the beauty of the resort and its surrounds, Cinnamon Citadel believes strongly in creating that milieu,” said Kehelpannala.
