R Hotels is to develop the first sharia-compliant, four-star resort and spa on Palm Jumeirah, with the company targeting a Q4 2016 opening following AED 500 million ($ 136.2 m) investment. Located on the East Crescent of the man-made island, the hotel will be the sixth property for R Hotels, the hospitality management division of R Holding. No operator has been confirmed yet, although a spokesperson has said that it will be an international hotel brand. Aimed at leisure travellers, it will feature 259 rooms and modern recreational facilities, including a spa for men and women, gym, and swimming pool, and R Hotels is planning to also offer wellbeing treatments, plus fitness and nutrition programs. Other features will include an all-day dining restaurant and poolside bar, as well as a sauna and steam bath. Amenities and activities exclusively for children will include a fully-supervised indoor and outdoor play area, and special kids’ entertainment. R Hotels managing director Sumair Tariq noted: “The group furthers its presence in the UAE hospitality scene as we continue to expand our portfolio. “We have exciting projects in the pipeline with two new hotel openings within the next two years, which confirms the strong demands in the market. “We take pride in our sharia-compliant properties in the UAE and we aim to make a mark in the hospitality industry by capitalising on strategic locations, particularly in Dubai. Our present and upcoming properties are aimed at diverse markets and segments, and we are positive that our new property will be a welcome addition to The Palm.” R Hotels is currently developing a hotel on Al Mina Road in Jumeirah, expected to open in the second quarter of 2015. The two hotels now under development are part of the group’s AED1.5 billion ($408.7mn) investment plan announced last year. The currently owns and manages four properties in the UAE: Ramada Hotel and Suites Ajman, Ramada Beach Hotel Ajman, Ramada Downtown Dubai, and Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham in Jumeirah Beach Residence. R Hotel’s upcoming resort and spa at Palm Jumeirah is aimed at leisure travellers and will highlight its contemporary facilities, wellbeing services, family-friendly entertainment, and the exciting and upscale destination. Its location provides easy access to various dining and shopping venues, as well as to an array of attractions for families and adventure-seeking individuals. Some popular fun-filled activities within The Palm include water skiing, wind surfing, wakeboarding, fishing and boat trips, and sky diving. (Source: Arabian Travel News)
