Galle Face Hotel in rare set of heritage postage stamps

The Government in partnership with the Ministry of Post and Communication released four, first edition postage stamps featuring selected heritage buildings in Sri Lanka.



The four stamps have been designed after a careful selection process where colonial style buildings were considered for this unique launch. After careful deliberation, the four buildings chosen were: The Presidential Secretariat, The Colombo Municipal Council, The Galle Face Hotel and The Colombo Museum.

Galle Face Hotel Co. Ltd. Chairman and CEO Sanjeev Gardiner addressed the glitzy event at The Galle Face Hotel by congratulating the workforce that helped make this happen.

Gardiner said, “This marks a historic event for us, this beautiful city boasts being home to Sri Lanka’s oldest hotel and the first hotel to feature on a stamp. The stamps will encourage and increase value in the city for all and increase world recognition.” Stamps are said to be an ambassador of a country, this release is sure to resonate class and beauty.

This fast changing city is buzzing to become the number one hot spot in the world. The Galle Face Hotel shared this proud moment to be the only hotel to be selected. “We as a nation are strong. We have great history and appreciate the designs and architecture during the British Colony. We must protect and preserve these buildings as the people are the ones who keep this building standing,” said Secretary Ministry of Postal Services Hemasiri Fernando.Next year will see the launch of another four stamps where Mount Lavinia Hotel will be featured. These masterpieces of the colonial era are living monuments for future generations.

The stamps came in an elegant presentation packaging and will be highly sought after by any hoteliers and stamp collectors.
