Galle Face Hotel’s ‘Kuttan’ turns 91 today

Sri Lanka’s legendary doorman K. Chattu  Kuttan at the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo will be 91 years on 15th February 2011. He has been part of Galle Face Hotel’s culture as far back in 1942.

Kuttan is undoubtedly one of the oldest serving employees in the hospitality industry in the world. Born in 1920, Kuttan has served the Galle Face Hotel loyally and diligently and - in 2010 - he completed his 68th year at the hotel.

Kuttan when recalling his memories as a waiter said he had served dignitaries like Lord Mountbatten, Princess Elizabeth, Pandit Jawarharlal Nehru, Gandhi, Yuri Gagarin and Arthur C. Clarke.



Kuttan’s humble greetings, broad smile the characteristic moustache make him a personality you cannot forget. Happy Birthday Kuttan!!!!!!
