George Steuart Travel, the 34 year old travel arm of diversified conglomerate George Steuart and Co., has been ranked the Number One Travel Agent for 2013 by Singapore Airlines, adding yet another accolade to the company’s success story. The company was recognised with the Gold Award for Best Passenger Sales at the Annual Passenger Sales Award Ceremony, hosted by Singapore Airlines at the Kingsbury Hotel recently, beating off stiff competition from Mackinnons American Express Travels (Silver winner) and Classic Travels (Bronze winner). George Steuart Travel Senior Director and Head of Ticketing Division Channe Wijemanne accepted the award from Singapore Airlines in Sri Lanka General Manager Aldrin Arumugam. Wijemanne hailed the performance, saying “This recognition by one of the most prestigious airlines is a testament to the dedication and commitment of our team – I am truly humbled by the effort made by our team of committed professionals, whose spirit and energy have always enabled us to win the respect and trust of customers and partners alike.” George Steuart Travel also won a Gold Award from Turkish Airlines for Passenger Sales 2013/14, at the Awards Night, which was held recently at the Taj Samudra hotel. In business since 1974 and conferred official recognition by IATA in 1986, George Steuart Travel is a full service travel company that engages in both inbound and outbound holiday travel and immigration related services. It has consistently been ranked among the top five agents in Sri Lanka by international airlines. The company’s competitive edge stems from its commitment to professionalism, the many years of solid experience offering round-the-clock service to demanding local and foreign clientele, and its fully automated office complex – considered one of the best equipped in the country. George Steuart Travel is part of the George Steuart Group, Sri Lanka’s oldest mercantile entity, established in 1835. A recent change in leadership has seen the group aggressively expand its business, pursuing new opportunities and growing its existing footprint along eleven verticals.
