The Hamptons, situated north of New York is where the wealthy escape to the beach for summer. Gravitas will be themed and styled after the famous Hamptons look which is classy, classic, sophisticated, yet a relaxed beach living. The event will take place on Saturday 28 February at the Empire Ballroom of the Mount Lavinia Hotel, the venue being the key factor in bringing in an interesting twist to the dance. Tickets priced at Rs. 5,000 are already on sale and available at the CHSGA office. “Gravitas has always been one of the most talked about events. And this year we are making it more different than ever before. It’s all about keeping it fresh and interesting by mixing old with new. We are asking all revellers to dress for an elegant beach themed event preferably in light colours. Gentlemen, you are free to ditch the suits and ties and be comfortable,” says Ceylon Hotel School Graduates Association President Eksath Wijeratne. The executive committee of the Ceylon Hotel School Graduates Association is abuzz with their interesting new twist on the dance and activities planned for Gravitas this year. Wijeratne did not disclose all details but did say that there would be plenty of surprises for all revellers. Gravitas is the event of the hospitality industry and well attended by its fraternity. In addition to their interesting new twist (remember no ties and suits) an interesting entertainment line-up, gifts and surprises that only an event organised by the hospitality trade could provide are on the cards, with bands Misty and C Plus who will make sure that the dance floor is never empty. “We hoteliers spend all our time to make sure that everyone else has a good time, you look around and see them all at work when everyone is ‘on holiday’. Gravitas is the event where we, the hoteliers take time to enjoy ourselves. I invite our colleagues and friends to join us in making it a night to remember.” With a membership of over 1,000 the CHSGA brings together the cream of the hospitality industry of Sri Lanka. What started as an informal group was incorporated in parliament as a professional association promoting professional development of its members.
