Green Globe has announced that it is sending Business Development Manager Irina Ignat to Sri Lanka and the Maldives this April to conduct high-level sales and client engagement meetings.
Together with local audit partner STING Consultants, Ignat will meet with Green Globe member hotels and resorts to discuss how certification, under Green Globe’s standard for sustainable travel and tourism, is contributing to Sri Lanka’s successful hospitality industry.
“Green Globe is focused on helping each and every tourism business understand that they have an individual and measurable environmental footprint that can be reduced over time. Additionally, each business makes significant contributions to employment and economic development. So collectively there is a great opportunity for tourism and hospitality to make significant impact in safeguarding the natural resources and building better communities within their destinations,” said Ignat.
The Green Globe Standard is a system for sustainability, quality management and continuous improvement which benefits hotel operations and management as well as communities and destinations. Green Globe first developed its standard in 2002 and today it is recognised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and is reviewed and updated annually. Green Globe is also the only certification company to be an Affiliate Member of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
Amongst Green Globe’s Sri Lanka and the Maldives membership are three major hotel and resort brands, Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts, Jumeirah Hotels and Constance Hotels.
Green Globe is the worldwide sustainability system based on internationally-accepted criteria for sustainable operation and management of travel and tourism businesses. Operating under a worldwide license, Green Globe is based in California, USA and is present in over 83 countries. Green Globe is an Affiliate Member of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). Green Globe is also a member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).
