Bahrain’s national carrier Gulf Air announced that it will begin flights to Milan, Italy, on 27 March and Geneva, Switzerland, two days later.

The Milan Malpensa service will operate four times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday and the thrice-weekly Geneva flight will be on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Announcing the new routes, which will bring Gulf Air’s destination portfolio to 47, CEO Samer Majali said: “The launching of these two new routes further demonstrates our commitment to connect Bahrain to the region and the rest of the world, including some of the world’s leading financial markets, to support Bahrain’s financial services and trade sector.

“This was a key component of our new strategy, announced in November 2009, to make Gulf Air a commercially sustainable and successful business while supporting the nation’s Vision 2030.”

Adding that Milan, which has Europe’s fourth highest GDP, is one of the continent’s most popular destinations while Geneva, as well as offering huge potential for business travellers, is also one of the most sought-after summer retreats for GCC nationals, Majali said he hoped both services will be increased to daily operations in the future.
