The Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO) organised a one day meeting for tourism related service providers at ‘Sancharaka Udawa’ on 27 January 2011.
The main objective was to bring local tourism-related businesses into the main stream of the tourism sector and create a platform from which small and medium sized service providers can build links with tour operators and succeed in the rapidly growing tourism industry.
Under the theme ‘Deep South,’ the Hambantota District Chamber of Commerce (HDCC) has developed a project which promotes the Hambantota District as a prime tourist destination. As part of the Deep South project, HDCC organised a group of tourism service providers from the Hambantota District to attend ‘Sancharaka Udawa’
The group included: the Indika Art Gallery, Tangalle Navajeewana, the Tourism Traders Association, the Tissamaharama and Tangalle Turtle Conservation Project, the Rukdiya Eco Tourism Project, the Walawa Nadee Eco Tourism Association, the Independent Safari Jeep Owners’ Association and the Buckingham Palace Hotel.
‘Sancharaka Udawa’ presented a wonderful opportunity to learn more about tourism prospects and initiatives and also to make other groups aware of the tourist attractions, products and services available in the Hambantota District.
All the groups who attended the above event felt they had benefited from a wonderful opportunity to make business connections and share information between regional level stakeholders and national level institutions.
