Harpo’s School of Hospitality & Tourism Management receives City & Guild Approved Center status

Harpo’s School of Hospitality & Tourism Management, Galle Branch was recognised as an Approved Center of City & Guild (UK) recently and the relevant plaque of recognition was presented to Harpo Gooneratne, Chairman/MD by Mufthy Hashim, Regional Manager for City & Guilds – South Asia. The main objective of the hotel school is to offer internationally recognised high quality demand driven programs both in the areas of hospitality and tourism vocational studies as well as on corporate training to enhance the competitiveness of individuals and companies in the dynamic global business environment, while also providing Sri Lankans with an opportunity to improve their employability skills, broaden their employment prospects both locally and overseas and to improve the productivity of their respective organisations. Harpo’s Hotel School will also serve as a portal for knowledge, training, skills and competence development across diverse disciplines for the prospective aspirants. City & Guild – UK is an internationally accepted organisation which provides assessment and certification services for schools and colleges, business and industry, trade associations and government agencies in nearly 100 countries. It has over 125 years of experience in identifying training needs, developing assessment materials, carrying out assessments and training assessment staff. City & Guild award certificates to people who have shown they have mastered skills that are based on world-class standards set by industry. City & Guilds International provides a service to customers around the world who need quality assessments and certification. Harpo’s Hotel school is extremely pleased with and extends and unstinted cooperation to the Government’s efforts towards higher economic growth and more extensive development in the country by increasing the knowledge base in Sri Lanka through the public-private sector participation to widen the accessibility for youth to the portals of learning. Further this IVQ (International Vocational Qualification) will enhance the aspirant’s employability both locally and internationally. The Hotel School will be initially introducing the following City & Guild qualifications: Certificate/Diploma in Food & Beverage Service and Food Preparation – International Cookery and Pastry & Bakery. The aforementioned courses will be conducted by highly qualified and experienced approved faculty in the environs of state-of-the-art facilities.
