The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Lithuania in Sri Lanka is promoting Lankans to explore the North European nation and one of the three Baltic States for a stunning holiday.

The Consulate says the best time to visit Lithuania is the month of May. Short summers and freezing winters set the scene in the Baltic coastline. However, on either sides of summer is May and September, the perfect time for a stroll in Lithuania.

Lithuania is fast being recognised as one of Europe’s travel hubs. It’s a nature-lover’s delight. National parks such as Aukštaitija, Trakai, Žemaitija and Dzūkija offer tranquillity and much needed bliss for someone who admires nature. Its stunning Baltic coastline, lonely wetlands lure migrating while lush forests watch over burnished lakes.

The capital, Vilnius, adorned by frayed courtyards, cobbled streets and baroque churches are animated by the vibrant optimistic culture of today. Hill of Crosses and Orvydas stone garden resonate the land’s enduring faith. Other popular sites include Ninth Fort, Trakai Castle, Gediminas Tower, Old Town of Kaunas, Palanga beach and Nida dunes.

Flight tickets range between $ 700-750 and Lithuania offer affordable accommodation in hotels costs ranging from $ 30-45 per night. Tourist visa to Lithuania (Schengen Visa) could be obtained from the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Colombo (Tel. 011 5 608700).
