Horton Plains nature reserve to be upgraded

Minister of Agrarian Services and Wildlife S.M. Chandrasena says that Horton Plains nature reserve in the hill country will be upgraded to the level of an international wildlife sanctuary.

Horton Plains, situated at an altitude of 2,100,300 metres with a rich biodiversity, is already a tourist hot spot and many hundreds of visitors engage in hiking and sightseeing in the plains daily.



The Minister said that the facilities for the visitors in the sanctuary will also be enhanced.  The road from Nuwara-Eliya to Horton Plains will also be developed with the support of the Road Development Authority, the Minister stated.

The Minister anticipates one million visitors to the Horton Plains nature reserve next year.
