Hunas Falls by Amaya earns Greening Sri Lanka Awards 2013

Hunas Falls by Amaya has been recognised several times, both locally and internationally for its efforts to improve the environment and lower emissions while still providing premium accommodations in Sri Lanka. The EU Switch – Asia Greening Sri Lanka Hotels Project Awards 2013 which is a project funded by the European Union and implemented by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce under the EU Switch – Asia Program, was held recently at the Hilton Residencies. Hunas Falls by Amaya was presented the winner in the SME sector and also bagged interesting awards in two categories. Under the guidance of the Hotel Manager – Asela Wavita, the resort was honoured by the award for the Best Green Hotel in the SME Sector (with 50 rooms or less) and was the overall winner of the night.     A greener concept The hotel also won awards in two categories: Waste Management Champion in the SME Sector and Water Conservation Champion in the SME Sector. The awards were in recognition of the resort’s commitment to a greener concept and its objectives to enhance the environmental performance through improvement of energy, water and waste management systems whilst reducing cost of operations and elevating global market acceptance of Sri Lankan hotels with low carbon foot print. “There are many reasons why creating the green hotel is important,” said Amaya Resorts & Spas Managing Director Lalin Samarawickrama. “Through global warming and its related dangers there will be a direct impact on people’s lives.
