IAPCO course successfully held in Sri Lanka

The International Association of Professional Conference organisers (IAPCO), in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Association of Professional Conference, Exhibition and Event Organisers (SLAPCEO) and the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB), recently concluded its first-ever training course in conference handling, ‘The Bid and Beyond’ in Sri Lanka from 20-24 July at Heritance Kandalama. The participants were industry members representing the leading organisations which deal with Meetings, Incentives, Congresses, Exhibitions and Events (MICE) in Sri Lanka.

Structured under the direction of the IAPCO training academy and conducted by an internationally-qualified panel of lecturers, Mathias Posch, Sara Pugh and Andre Vietor from IAPO Wolfsburg, the program covered several useful sessions, namely bidding for congresses, the art of sponsorship, program management and managing apps, risk management, registration, onsite arrangements, venue and accommodation management. The program was very interactive, with sharing of professional expertise, international case studies and useful tips in competing strategically in the global market. “In the past, Sri Lankans and those in the conference business world over had to invest heavily to send their employees to Switzerland to follow IAPCO’s highly acclaimed-training courses in conference and event handling, but we together with SLAPCEO made it possible to happen in Sri Lanka at 10% of the cost,” said SLCB CEO Vipula Wanigasekera In the recent years Sri Lanka has made tremendous progress in attracting several international events and continues to forge ahead as a sought-after venue for international conferences and events and SLCB having understood the importance of updating the industry with the role of the professional congress organiser in the international congress and association meetings market was pleased to come forward and take initiatives to support the said training program, which was a tremendous success. An internationally-recognised certificate was awarded upon successful completion of the course. The participants were also hosted by Cinnamon Lodge in Habarana and Aliya, Sigiriya during the course.
