India Unbound, an award winning Australian tour operator, arrived in Sri Lanka last week for a seven-day familiarisation tour of the country.
The Melbourne-based tour operator is hosting the trip for six Australian travel agents, who are being accompanied by two staff from India Unbound’s Melbourne office.
India Unbound is an Australian tour operator that specialises in custom made itineraries to India and Sri Lanka. The company has arranged the familiarisation tour with its local ground operator Heritage Expediciones Ltd., to highlight India Unbound’s expertise and preferred style of touring and accommodation within Sri Lanka. The company said it chose to run the familiarisation tour without any government or airline assistance so that it could create the ultimate program for its guests, and run a tour that truly reflected the magic of Sri Lanka.
Some of the places to be visited by the Australian travel agents include Tea Trails in the tea country and restored boutique villas in Galle. They will also explore Colombo and head to Yala National Park.
India Unbound Founder Lincoln Harris said the visiting agents are very excited to be coming to Sri Lanka, many for the first time. Currently there is a lot of interest in Sri Lanka from travellers in Australia, Harris added.
“We are seeing a boom in demand for Sri Lanka, but not just mainstream destinations or hotels. With this tour we are trying to highlight some of the lesser-known gems,” Harris said. “I am sure Sri Lanka will warmly embrace these lucky Australian travel agents and they’ll go home better able to promote and sell Sri Lanka.”
India Unbound is also planning to bring to Sri Lanka a group of travel writers from Australia later this year. India Unbound was established in 2007 by Lincoln Harris and specialises in custom made journeys of India and Sri Lanka. Lincoln Harris has been travelling to India and Sri Lanka for over 20 years and his knowledge and expertise is invaluable for customers wanting a private tour. Having lived and raised a family in India, Lincoln’s expertise of these two countries goes beyond the ‘must see’ highlights. Each custom made journey is well-planned, innovative and one of a kind, which reflects the unique interests of the traveller.
