A new President was appointed at the 46th AGM of Sri Lanka Institute of National Tourist Guide Lecturers held recently at its headquarters in Colombo 10. Newly-elected President Indika Vithanage succeeds a veteran in the industry, Joe Livera, who successfully completed a Herculean task towards its membership during the last decade. It was a sentimental moment when the membership with a thunderous applause approved the naming of the auditorium as ‘Joe Livera Auditorium’ at the SLINT-GL headquarters building. “It is not that easy to follow a great leader,” expressed Vithanage on his inaugural address and assured nothing but the best for his fellow members and the industry as a whole with insurance and retirement scheme for the members, a vehicle for the institute and continuous improvement in knowledge and education using modern trends in technology, on the cards. They will continue to move further by marketing SLINT-GL both locally and internationally and also set-up their own media unit that would effectively support them in future projects, Vithanage added. The occasion was attended by SLAITO President Mahen Kariyawasan as the chief guest along with LSR Founder/Chairman Thilak Weerasinghe and Dr. Suranga Silva of the University of Colombo as guests of honour. Asiri Samaraweera was appointed General Secretary, Lionel Jayasinghe as Treasurer with Dharmin Samarajeewa, Nuwan Sithara and Mahesh Priyadarshana as Vice Presidents for the year 2014/2015.
