Sri Lanka’s very own Jetwing Hotels was a part of a star studded evening at the World Travel Awards 2012, picking up a total of five awards for the third year running. Established in 1993, World Travel Awards seeks to acknowledge, reward, and celebrate excellence in all sectors of the tourism industry. Today, the WTA brand is recognised globally as the ultimate hallmark of quality, with winners setting the benchmark to which all others aspire. In 2013, WTA will celebrate its historic 20th anniversary year. The annual program is renowned as the most prestigious and comprehensive in the travel and tourism industry. In 2011, 791,358 individual votes were cast by travel professionals and consumers in 171 countries. Each year WTA covers the globe with a series of regional gala ceremonies staged to recognise and celebrate individual and collective successes within each key geographical region. This year, Jetwing Lagoon, Jetwing Vil Uyana, Jetwing Lighthouse, Jetwing Blue and Jetwing Ayurveda Pavilions stood dominant in their categories, winning the same awards as last year, along with a brand new category – for (respectively) Sri Lanka’s Leading Spa Resort, Sri Lanka’s Leading Boutique Hotel, Sri Lanka’s Leading Resort, Sri Lanka’s Leading Wedding Venue, and Sri Lanka’s Leading Wellness Resort. Members of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Jetwing Lighthouse and Jetwing Vil Uyana are both marvels of architecture and design with the former being one of Bawa’s finest creations, and Jetwing Vil Uyana an unparalleled combination of nature and luxury. Jetwing Blue and Jetwing Ayurveda Pavilions are situated in the calm fishing town of Negombo, the birthplace of the company. A newcomer to this year’s awards, Jetwing Lagoon happens to be the first resort in Sri Lanka designed by Bawa, and a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World as well. Speaking at the event, Jetwing’s Head of Sales and Marketing Ishanth Gunewardene was happy to say: “Our commitment to our guests has always set us apart, and our brand of true and traditional Sri Lankan hospitality has resulted in Jetwing being the premier hospitality brand in Sri Lanka, renowned internationally. Winning the same awards three years running, as well as a brand new one for Sri Lanka’s Leading Wedding Venue is indeed an achievement and I would like to thank all our associates for their hard work and dedication. We have quite a few exciting projects in the pipeline and look forward to receiving similar accolades in the future.” Family owned and in the tourism industry for the past 40 years, Jetwing Hotels has surpassed expectation at every aspect. Building on their foundation of being passionate, as well as the experience of true, traditional Sri Lankan hospitality, constantly pioneering discoveries captures the essence of the brand. Such a strong statement and direction have enabled Jetwing Hotels to imagine, create and manage marvels and masterpieces, where distinctive design and elegant comfort complement each other and the environment. Considered a priority, sustainable and responsible practice is implemented through the award winning Jetwing Eternal Earth Program; with energy efficiency, community upliftment, and education of earth saving measures to schoolchildren being a few tenets of the Program.
