Judging of Greening Hotels Awards 2013 in progress

The Switch Asia Greening Sri Lanka Hotel Awards for 2013 is scheduled to be held on 14 October at the JAIC Hilton. The new EU Commissioner David Daly will be the Chief Guest while IMF Resident Representative Dr. Koshy Mathai will deliver the keynote address. There have been a record 47 entries out of which 27 are from larger hotels and 20 from the SME sector. The process of judging is now underway and shortlisted candidates are being interviewed by the judges. During this process they hope and ascertain the extent of senior management involvement in the Greening process and to elicit more information from them regarding the applications submitted. Due to the high level of interest, the judges have recommended to the project to create a new runner up award for the Overall Green Champion. This has been accepted and on this basis the awards that will be given out this year are;
  • Best Green Hotel
  • Energy Conservation Champion
  • Water Conservation Champion
  • Waste Management Champion
Best Green Hotel – Runner Up The same awards will be given out for the large and SME categories. The panel of judges comprises of Resource Management Associates Ltd. Managing Director Dr. Tilak Siyamabalapitiya (Chairman of the Judging Panel), Ceylon Electricity Board Actg. Deputy General Manager R&D and Chief Engineer Demand Side Management K.G.R.F. Comester, National Cleaner Production Centre CEO Sena Peiris, Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority Deputy Director General Harsha Wickremasinghe, Public Utilities Commission of Sri LankaDirector General Damitha Kumarasinghe, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority Director of Tourism Planning and Development Upali Rathnayake, CCC Solutions Ltd. Managing Director/CEO Prema Cooray and  Greening Sri Lanka Hotels Project Director/Consultant Srilal Miththapala.
