Sri Lanka is to venture in to a new hospitality offering with the green light being given for a hotel project that will consist entirely of water bungalows. The project will get off the ground in the Vellai island in Kalpitiya, where the Maldivian investor will attempt to recreate the Maldivian experience right here in Sri Lanka through a multi million rupee investment. Tourism Development Minister John Amaratunga visited the proposed site over the weekend for an onsite project appraisal. He was accompanied by Deputy Minister Arundika Fernando, top Ministry officials, members of the local authorities, representatives of the Catholic Church and fishing community, and naval officials.
