While Turkish Airlines has been playing a big role in promoting Sri Lanka across the world, especially via regular familiarisation trips to the country, a key problem it has been facing here is the cost incurred for bringing in non-commercial promotional material, for which it says it is heavily charged by Sri Lankan Customs – something the airline says it has not experienced anywhere else in the world.
In order to promote itself in Sri Lanka, especially among agents, it needs to distribute non-commercial promotional items (such as books, banner and pens), which are not for resale. With 238 destinations right now, Turkish Airlines understandably has a lot of promotional material.
