Lecture on ‘Heritage of Ladakh Himalayas’

The Sri Lanka India Society will hold a lecture by Shiv Darshan Singh Ph.D. on the ‘Heritage of Ladakh Himalayas’ on Thursday 22 January at the Regency Room, Taj Samudra, Colombo at 5 p.m. Ladakh, ‘The Land of High Passes,’ is in the State of Jammu and Kashmir that extends from Kuen Lun mountain range in the north of the great Himalayas to the South, inhabited by the people of Indo Aryan and Tibetan descent. Dr. Shiv Dharshan Singh is co-author of the best seller ‘Ladakh – Travel, History, Culture’ – an encyclopedia of various aspects of Ladakh, its people and culture, with all the information that any tourist would need, to visit the region. His new book ‘Rock Art of Ladakh’ will be published shortly. Moreover, Dr. Singh has been hailed for his pioneering work in recording and preserving rock carvings (petroglyphs) of Ladakh. He is a member of the Rock Society of India, and has made presentations at international forums. Dr. Singh’s presentation will include images of the Buddhist and Pre-Buddhist heritage of Ladakh and is ideal for students of archaeology and culture and as well as for out bound travel agents who wish to know more about Ladakh.
