As the sounds of the Koel and the beating of the rabana heralded the dawn of the New Year across the island, the Mahaweli Reach family together with their guests enjoyed the true essence and spirit of the season amidst many traditions. The New Year commenced with the boiling of milk at the auspicious time, followed by the Avurudu Ullella at which all participated with great delight.
An obstacle race, bun eating race, Kotta Pora, Kana Mutti Bindeema, weaving of coconut palms and coconut scraping competitions, sack race and tug-of-war were part of the events lined up for the day. The spread of delectable Avurudu sweet meats which were laid out was a great hit. The ambiance and the warmth that enveloped all ensured that each guest took away cherished memories of their stay during the holiday season.
