Malaysia Airlines adds flights to Kochi, Darwin

Malaysia Airlines will be adding two destinations to its expanding network after Dubai. Beginning 1 September 2013, the national carrier will be introducing flights between Kuala Lumpur and Kochi daily in both directions as well as reinstate flights between Kuala Lumpur and Darwin five times weekly effective 1 November 2013, after the airline ceased services to the Northern Territory of Australia in 2002. Both routes will be operating on the new and improved 160-seater B737-800. The B737-800 aircraft with a configuration of 16 business and 144 Economy seats, provides premium travel experience with on-demand in-flight entertainment system at every seat. This is following the airlines’ re-introduction to Dubai which will take effect on 5 August 2013. The Kuala Lumpur-Dubai return service will be mounted daily via MH162 and MH163 using the B777-200 aircraft that offers a total capacity of 282 seats in each flight, equivalent to 3,948 seats weekly.

In conjunction with the introduction of service to Kochi, Malaysia Airlines is offering super attractive promotional fares. Malaysia Airlines Group CEO, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said, “Malaysia Airlines needs to grow in tandem with the growth of the region. This means investing in our fleet, in the quality of our product and services. As the national carrier, we have decided to operate to these three cities, Dubai, Kochi and Darwin to introduce Malaysia to new markets—and we are happy to reinstate Dubai and Darwin into Malaysia Airlines’ network to extend our reach and strengthen our offering to customers.” “Besides that, we have also been actively increasing frequencies to various regional destinations,” Ahmad Jauhari added. On 1 June 2013, flights between Kuala Lumpur and Phuket have been increased to 26 times weekly with the introduction of one new daily service as well as its frequency between Kuala Lumpur and Kathmandu from five times weekly to seven times weekly. Flights between Kuala Lumpur and Mumbai have been increased to 12 times weekly on 3 June 2013 with one additional service to its current daytime schedule. Effective 1 August 2013, the airline will be operating four times daily between Kuala Lumpur and Denpasar.
