Maldives is named the ‘Best Dreaming Area’ for divers, at the internationally acclaimed, Dive and Travel Awards 2012.
In addition, Maldives also won silver in the category for the Best Diving Area. Dive and Travel Awards winners were announced during the Marine Diving and Beach Resort fair held in Tokyo, Japan. This is Japan’s largest travel fair for scuba diving and beach resorts and showcases world’s top destinations for divers and beachgoers.
Dive and Travel Awards is seen by the industry as a prestigious recognition acclaimed much by Japanese travellers. Winning destinations are voted by the readers of two leading magazines, Travel Diver and Marine Diving. Those are the two most popular publications in Japan targeted to divers. Maldives offers boundless marine attractions for travellers and countless dives sites to choose from. The marine bliss played a major role in making Maldives, the elite destination of Indian Ocean. In addition Maldivian tourist resorts are continuously pioneering innovative ways to showcase the best of Maldivian dive scene. Most notably, LUX8 Maldives will be hosting the first underwater festival in Maldives this year. A collective effort by the tourism industry earned Maldives, two major accolades from Japan’s diving coterie.
In addition to the two destination awards, Blue Shark II and Equator from the Maldives were ranked 2nd and third place respectively in the “Best Dive Cruise” category.
After receiving the awards, Maldivian High Commissioner to Japan Ahmed Khaleel shared the concerns of climate change, which has become the key threat corals reefs and other marine life.
Maldives Marketing and Public Relation Corporation was joined by Bandos Island Resort, Adaaran Resorts, Sun Diving School, LUX* Island Resort and Cox and Kings, during the two day expo at Sunshine City Convention Centre, Tokyo. More than 200 companies and tourism organisations from around the world are showcased at this annual event. They bring a diverse collection of travel products, from most sought-after dive destinations to exotic beach resorts.
