Marine mammal safaris with Nature Trails at Chaaya Tranz

With the Southern whale watching season here again, Nature Trails naturalists are guiding all whale and dolphin watchers on excursions based from Chaaya Tranz, Hikkaduwa.

Nilantha was guiding a special group of photographers last weekend when he encountered over 400 Spinner dolphins seven nautical miles off Mirissa.

Every now and then, there’s a morning that is flat and calm with perfect visibility and the boat is travelling at the correct angle, catching spinners back lit almost in velvet like water with the reflection of the photographer on the water among the dolphins.

To make this moment even more special, he’s caught two spinners crisscrossed almost in staged fashion, one of those moments that makes you admire the marine realm.
