The soft opening of UTMT (Under the Mango Tree) Ayurveda Spa and Resort, the first five-star resort hotel in Matara, located on a scenic cliff at Batheegama, Dikwella, took place on 13 December, almost a month behind schedule.
This state-of-the-art luxury resort hotel designed to blend with the landscape boasts 25 rooms and chalets, of which 13 have pool gardens, a tennis court, swimming pool, cinema, Ayurveda Spa and many more facilities to pamper its guests. The resort will provide employment to over 90 persons.
The UTMT kindergarten within the complex is for children of employees and it also provides an opportunity for guests to allow their children to interact with local children while they relax or indulge in the comforts of the resort.
Austrian nationals Robert and Dr. Petra Hollman, the owners of the resort, intend to reside and manage the resort themselves. Although Robert mentioned that the resort had cost much more than he expected, he declined to disclose a specific figure.
Dr. Petra, a gynecologist, serves voluntarily at the Batheegama Hospital when her busy schedule permits it.
