Since its inception in 1983 the Mermaid has always set the standard for three star resort hotels. With regular refurbishments and modern updates the hotel has kept pace competing with its international peers. The hotel undergoes a detailed refurbishment every five to six years with regular soft refurbishments in between to transform the hotel into a welcoming holiday sanctuary.
The most recent refurbishment was successfully carried out in 2010 and engaged the space with flexibility, light, a sense of openness and most importantly a strong connection with the surrounding scenery. An exciting architectural and interior refurbishment program is scheduled for 2014 with the objective of enhancing the overall look and feel of the lobby and reception amongst several other enhancements. A new facility for guests will be introduced by mid June 2014; this facility will be the only one of its kind in a hotel in Sri Lanka.
Continuous improvements – a key focus
With continuous improvements being a key focus for the company, the hotel has been incredibly successful, to the delight of its clients, in creating the ideal environment for a holiday maker.
In keeping with the company ethos of having strong links to and working together with the local community the hotel gradually built a relationship with the beach boys and encouraged them with gainful employment. The management provided guidance and advice and convinced them to always do good things for the benefit of tourists. Mermaid Hotel & Club is an enchanting 81 room beach resort located in the coast of Kalutara. One of the key facets of the hotel is ‘The Club’ located away from the main buildings which offers an exciting range of sports and recreational activities. It also boasts a second swimming pool reserved for aquatics. The Club is an active place where guests can engage in activities during the day while the main hotel is reserved for those who wish to relax and enjoy the beautiful surrounds.
