For sustainable tourism development in Sri Lanka
An initiative by the University of Colombo
The students of the Postgraduate Diploma leading to Masters in Tourism Economics and Hotel Management of the University of Colombo (2013/2014 batch) has initiated a full day work shop to communicate the importance of networking the tourism resources and integrating the stakeholder participation for sustainable tourism development of Sri Lanka on 02 March 2014 at the Main Library Auditorium of University of Colombo.
This program looks at the importance of resource bases for the development of tourism in Sri Lanka with the following objectives;
To help operators identify new resource-based tourism products and opportunities that you can pursue to diversify your tourism businesses
To encourage the innovative and analytical thinking for developing unique and novel tourism products and packages which will allow you to tap into new and emerging markets
To provide knowledge on how to develop, market and operate resource- based tourism products and packages which go beyond the conventional boundaries and horizons
To provide a useful and instrumental publication as a reference document and source of information for tourism experts to promote innovative products for sustainable tourism development
Students, Industry operators, Researchers and those involved in the tourism industry are warmly welcome to join in and further enhance your knowledge at this industry forum which will consist of presentations, panel discussions and networking. Dr. D.A.C Suranga Silva course coordinator of the DTEHM sates, “This is a wonderful opportunity for all who is involved in the trade to engage with the top most resource personnel of the Governing bodies and have an intellectual discussion about the industry and its way forward.” Governing bodies such as Urban Development Authority, Department of Wild life Conservation, Forest Department, Coast Conservation Department, Cultural and Heritage Ministry, Central Environment Authority, Association of Small and Medium Enterprises in Tourism, Department of Archaeology, Central Cultural fund will be conducting presentations and the Panel discussions will be held by Sri Lankan Airlines, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, Sri Lanka Association of inbound tour operators, Tourist hotel association of Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Institute of National Tourist Guide Lecturers.
