The ship was built by Chantiers de l’Atlantique at their shipyard in St. Nazaire, France. At 30,000 tons, Adonia is the smallest of seven ships currently in service with P&O Cruises. She officially entered service with the company in May 2011 and was named by Dame Shirley Bassey. The MV Adonia arrived in Colombo with 664 passengers and 379 crew. Around 60% of the passengers travelled on excursions to Kandy, Pinnawala and on Colombo city tours.
