Senior banker Russell de Mel has been appointed to the Board of Taj Lanka Plc as a Non Executive Independent Director.
De Mel, having been with NDB for over 30 years, retired as the bank’s Director/Chief Executive Officer in August 2013. Prior to his appointment as CEO he served as Vice President – Head of the Corporate Banking Group and as Vice President – Head of Group Risk Management.
He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK (FCMA), a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) and a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants (FCMA), Sri Lanka. de Mel was also awarded a Lifetime accolade by the International Finance Magazine, UK, for his outstanding contribution to the banking sector. Presently de Mel serves as a Director on the Board of Regional Development Bank and Richard Peiris Securities Ltd., and as the International Finance Corporation (IFC) nominee on the Board of Housing Development Finance Corporation, Maldives. He is also a Member of the Rating Committee of Lanka Rating Agency Ltd., formerly known as RAM Ratings Lanka.
Following the latest appointment, the Board of Directors of Taj Lanka Plc comprises of R.N.E. Bickson (Chairman), A.P. Goel, U.L. Kadurugamuwa, R.K. Chaudhary (alternate B.K. Chaudhry), Tilak De Zoysa, D.M. Harris, G. Sundaram, Viraj Singh, V. Govindasamy, S. Joshi and R. De Mel.
