Sea plane landing facility at Seeduwa

Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa on Tuesday visited the Seeduwa Daduhan Oya, the site where a sea plane landing facility is being built for the use of inbound tourists to the country.



This project jointly carried out by the Tourism authority of the Ministry of Economic Development and the Provincial Road Development Authority will have an access road and terminal facility aimed at providing direct internal flight services for inbound tourists to fly to up country and other tourist resort areas in the country.

The Minister instructed authorities to expedite work in order to make use of the service by first week of April as the demand for sea plane facility for internal tourism from the inbound tourists is on the increase. Sri Lanka which had nearly 900,000 tourist arrivals in 2011 expects a surge of more tourists exceeding one million tourists this year.

“Sri Lanka is famed for its hospitality among tourists. Therefore we should create more and more facilities for the well being of visiting tourists,” said the Minister, urging the need for early completion of this sea plane landing facility at Seeduwa by first week of April.

Minister Felix Perera, Western Provincial Minister Nimal Lansa and the Parliamentarian Sudarshanee Fernandopullai accompanied the Minister during this inspection tour.
