Beginning 15 July 2011 a two-week trial will begin where all Economy Class customers flying out on Malaysia Airlines domestic flights will have to check-in using the Self Check-In Kiosks at the KL International Airport (KLIA). Upon completion of the trial, full implementation of the Self Check-In Kiosk for Economy Class customers on our domestic flights will take place on 1 August 2011.

Tapping on technology as an enabler and innovation, this is a big step in changing the check-in experience for Malaysia Airlines customers at our home base in KLIA. While this is the norm at many of the other international airports in Europe and North

America, Malaysia Airlines is perhaps one of the first to actively push and promote the Self Check-In options in Asia.

Providing convenience to customers through Self Check-In is similar to how the ATMs (Automated Teller Machines), internet banking and self pump petrol kiosks for our cars or motorcycles was first introduced.

A total of 22 Self Check-In Kiosks dedicated to Malaysia Airlines will be located between Rows A to E.

The Self Check-In Kiosks gives customers better convenience to complete pre-embarkation before proceeding to the boarding gates. The check-in must be at least 45 minutes before departure – as always customers are advised to arrive in good time to complete the airport formalities.

The conventional counters will be dedicated to customers with special handling needs such as wheelchair requests, unaccompanied minors, disabled passengers, baggage drop-off, standby and resolving kiosk check-in problems that customers may have during the self check-in.

A definite advantage and convenience to customers is the ability to have the boarding pass printed out for the return flights within 48-hours.

More than 200 Airport Operations check-in counter staff have completed the refresher training on how to use the Self Check-In Kiosks and its functionalities.

Staff will be now positioned near to the Self Check-In Kiosks so that they can direct and proactively assist our customers when using the Self Check-In Kiosks. Business Class customers on domestic flights have the option of check-in at the Business Class Check-In Lounge or use any of the Self Check-In options.
