Shinagawa Beach adds a touch of Japan to Balapitiya

By Sarah Hannan The newest addition to the chain of designer hotels from Asia Leisure Ltd. ‘Shinagawa Beach’ opened for business on Sunday 1 December in the presence of Asia Capital PLC Group CEO Stefan Abeyesinhe, Teoria Investment Company Ltd. Japan President Shigenori Shinagawa, Shinagawa Beach staff, well wishers and friends. The Chief Guest for the evening was Minister for International Monetary Cooperation and Deputy Minister Finance and Planning Dr. Sarath Amunugama while the Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka Nobuhito Hobo and other dignitaries were also present. Another step towards developing tourism Speaking at the event Chief Guest Dr. Amunugama said: “With the launch of Shinagawa Beach we have taken another step towards developing tourism in Sri Lanka and are moving forward to reach the goal of 2.5 million tourists by 2016. Sri Lanka has welcomed big names in the hotel industry and we see more direct investments and projects coming in from other international hotel and resort chains. However we need to see more Japanese hotels established in Sri Lanka.” In response to Minister Amunugama’s statement Ambassador Hobo added: “Shinagawa Beach is set to contribute towards Sri Lanka’s growing economy. This joint venture is a great move towards strengthening and building cohesive business links between the two countries. Since the end of war Sri Lanka is becoming a potential destination to invest. In order to achieve the goal of 2.5 million tourists by 2016 Sri Lanka needs to focus on attracting more upmarket tourists. Shinagawa Beach is just a start of a series of investments that are to follow.” Secluded, pristine beach A ten minute drive from the fifth exit of the Southern Expressway brings you to a slice of prime real estate on which Shinagawa Beach is built.
