Singapore is still the world’s top location for meetings, according to the 2012 Union of International Associations (UIA) Global Rankings.
This is the second consecutive year that the city-state has emerged as top international meeting country and the sixth year it has been ranked top international meeting city. Japan and the US completed the top three list in the meeting country category.
Organisers of meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) prefer Singapore due to its strategic location and access to key Asian markets, noted the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).
A total of 952 of the meetings held in Singapore in 2012, or nearly 10% of UIA’s database, met the qualifying criteria. These include meetings organised or sponsored by international organisations or of “significant international character”.
Aside from the 18 world congresses held in 2012, other meetings include the fourth International Congress of Zookeepers 2012, 33rd Annual International Association of Technological University Libraries 2012, the International Conference on Next Generation Technologies for Bioenergy and Biomass Utilisation 2012 and the World Congress on Controversies in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Infertility 2012.
Moreover, Singapore will host the inaugural UIA Associations Round Table Asia from 23 to 24 October, which is part of the TravelRave 2013 festival.
