SKAL International’s Asian Board of Officers headed by Asian Area President Gerry Perez was in Sri Lanka at the beginning of this month for the annual mid-term review meeting. In addition to the Board, two former SKAL International World Presidents, Richard Hawkins and Uzi Yalon made the trip to Sri Lanka as observers.

The purpose of the visit of the Board was two-fold. In addition to their annual meeting, the 2013 SKAL Asian Area Congress is to be held in Negombo, Sri Lanka from 30 May to 2 June next year, so the Board took the opportunity to visit the Congress venues to view and evaluate the facilities and hotel accommodation to be used for the Congress.

The members of the Board were taken on an inspection tour of Jetwing Blue, Jetwing Beach, Jetwing Sea as well as the Jetwing Lagoon, which will accommodate the delegates while the main congress events will be held at the Jetwing Blue. Their verdict? “Excellent,” “super” and “first class,” were some of the comments from the Board. The Board then moved to Colombo where they held their mid-term meeting at the Galadari Hotel. The meeting was followed by the monthly SKAL Colombo meeting which this month, was a dinner with the Board in attendance where the local members met the Board and took the opportunity to explain the tourism initiatives currently underway in Sri Lanka.    The Board left after a two day-stay in the country looking forward to their visit for the Congress next year.
