An Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) of SKAL International Colombo was held on 28 July 2015, at the Galadari Hotel, Colombo.
As present President Dushy Jayaweera was overseas, the EGM was chaired by Skalleague Bernard Wijetunga, Vice President SKAL International Colombo.
The guest speaker at the SKAL EGM was Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Chairman Dr. Rohantha Athukorala, who addressed a gathering of industry and corporate leaders.
SKAL is a professional organisation of tourism leaders from around the world, promoting global tourism and friendship. It is the only International group uniting all branches of the travel and tourism industry. Its members are industry managers and executives who meet at the local, national, regional and international levels to discuss and pursue topics of common interest.
The first club was founded in 1932 in Paris by travel managers, following an educational tour of Scandinavia. The idea of international goodwill and friendship grew and in 1934 the Association Internationale des Skal Clubs was formed with Florimond Volckaert serving as its first President. Volckaert is considered the Father of Skal.
