Skytrax hit back at Etihad Airways for questioning the organisation’s methodologies and has told the UAE airline that it cannot be removed from the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards.
On Sunday, Etihad Airways said it had sent a letter to Skytrax formally announcing its decision to withdraw from the organisation, including the Skytrax World Airline Awards and the Skytrax Audit.
But in a statement, Skytrax said that it was “an independent airline rating organisation following an established code of conduct applied to Airline Rating for the past 25 years” and described Etihad’s statement as “misleading” and as “omitting salient facts” with regard to the airline’s Star rating.
“For a Skytrax audit review where we work in conjunction with the airline, product consistency, planned changes and aircraft fleet information are transparent and key elements of the assessment criteria. When an airline is either unable to, or does not wish to provide information that may potentially influence the Star Rating, Skytrax have no option but to curtail work on such project,” the Skytrax statement read.
Skytrax also revealed that Eithad could not ask to be withdrawn from the awards as the results were decided by a customer survey.
