The Sri Lanka Sub Aqua Club will present ‘Memories of the Jungle and Ocean’ by Rex De Silva, author of ‘From the Ocean Depths to the Stars’ on Wednesday 20 March from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Capri Club Auditorium.
De Silva is a Sri Lankan citizen scientist active in biological field research and observational astronomy. He is a pioneer Sri Lankan diver and underwater photographer, martial arts master and writer. He has researched and is a recognised authority on sharks, marine life, seabirds and shorebirds (waders). He has a special interest in meteorites and other minor bodies of the solar system.
To date he has published approximately 110 scientific research papers, book chapters and articles. He is a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London (FLS) and Member of the Institute of Biology, Sri Lanka (MIBiol). In 2013 he was declared an International Legend of Diving, the first individual from the Indian Ocean region to be so honoured.
He is now retired and lives with his wife at their home in Dampe (a village near the Bolgoda Lake) which is also base to Seabird Watch (Sri Lanka) and Astronomy Station SXT 94. His daughter and her family live in Australia.

Entrance is free for members of SLSAC (club membership card holders) while for non members it is Rs. 500 (refreshments included).
SLSAC was established in 1985. The club organises diving and social activities for the local diving community and also engages in conservation related activities.
