The Sri Lanka Embassy in Sweden, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, organised a dance performance by the Channa Upuli Dance Academy on 24 September at the Vällingby Theatre in Stockholm.

Ambassador Damayanthie Rajapakse made the welcome speech at the inauguration of the event.

The diplomatic community in Sweden and a large number of Swedish nationals comprising travel agents, travel writers, professionals and businessmen and potential visitors to Sri Lanka were present at the occasion.

The performance was much appreciated by members of the Sri Lankan community living in Sweden. Sri Lankan children residing in Sweden presented the national anthems of Sri Lanka and Sweden.

The Channa Upuli Dance Troupe kept the audience spellbound with their truly inspirational performance of traditional Sri Lankan dancing that was unique to a European audience. The dance troupe also performed at the TUR Travel Fair held in Stockholm, from 26-27 September.

A spectacular dance performance, followed by a medley of Tamil songs performed by the Bharatha Kala Kendra in Stockholm, further emphasised the multiculturalism that is cherished in the country.

A documentary on Sri Lanka was also screened at the program, highlighting Sri Lanka as a travel destination and the benefits it possesses as an investment destination.

The three-pronged approach of this event was to promote Sri Lanka as a tourist destination in Sweden, forge further cooperation between Sri Lanka and Sweden and build a closer rapport among the Sri Lankan Diaspora living in Sweden. The program also succeeded in generating curiosity and much interest in Sri Lanka amongst Swedes and other foreign nationals.

Sri Lankan food items, along with a cup of Ceylon Tea, were to invitees who helped create a truly Sri Lankan atmosphere.
