As Americans around the world celebrated 235 years of independence from Britain this July, Emirates, the Dubai–based international carrier, unveiled special fares to more than 125 cities in the USA.

Starting from Rs 166,801 for a Colombo - New York ticket, these tax-inclusive Economy Class return fares are valid for outbound travel up to end August 2011 and represent significant savings to travellers, the award-winning airline said.

They cover the four cities in the USA that Emirates operates flights to -- New York, Houston, Los Angeles and San Francisco -- and more than 125 off-line points including popular destinations such as Austin, Boston, Chicago, Honolulu, Memphis, Pittsburgh, Seattle, and Washington DC.

“Summer is the best time for Sri Lankans to travel to North America, and these special fares will benefit many people visiting friends and relatives or for leisure, as well as our frequent business travellers and students travelling or returning to American universities,” Devika Ellepola, Emirates’ Sales Manager in Sri Lanka said.

Emirates operates a total of 49 flights a week from Dubai to its four on-line points in the USA. The off-line destinations covered by the special fares will be served in collaboration with several leading airlines.

The special fares to all destinations except Houston should be purchased before 31 July and outbound travel completed before 31 August 2011.  The special fare to Houston can be purchased before 12 August for outbound travel before 25 August.

Members of Skywards, the frequent flyer programme of Emirates, win Skywards Miles on all sectors flown on Emirates operated flights and also have the added benefit of bonus miles on certain routes through the ‘Miles Accelerator’ feature.

Emirates operates daily non-stop flights to San Francisco and twice daily to Los Angeles, Houston and New York from Dubai, with good connections to numerous offline points in the USA. From Colombo, the airline operates 21 flights a week to Dubai, offering First, Business and Economy Class travel. The Emirates global network now comprises 113 destinations on six continents.
