The International Media Market (IMM) had its inaugural media event in Germany on 7 March. The event which took place at Hotel Adlon Kempinski in Berlin brought together leading journalists from Western Europe, predominantly from German speaking countries.
Over 135 journalists representing well-established media houses in Europe participated at the event to meet 75 exhibitors representing 25 countries including Sri Lanka. IMM enabled participating exhibitors to schedule online appointments with journalists prior to the event.
This was widely acknowledged as a great platform to target media houses based on reach, viewership/readership and popularity. This is the first-time Sri Lanka Tourism had participated at a media event to target and invite leading journalists for familiarisation tours of Sri Lanka.
Under the ‘Visiting Journalists Program’ of Sri Lanka Tourism, journalists are invited on fully sponsored press trips in return for predetermined media publicity in identified international print and digital media.
“IMM Germany was a great event which connected Sri Lanka Tourism with leading European journalists, travel bloggers and v-bloggers. We expect to arrange familiarisation tours for a few identified journalists to promote Sri Lanka as an ideal holiday destination,” said Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Public Relations Director Dushan Wickramasuriya.
