SriLankan Airlines, the national carrier of Sri Lanka has increased three new frequencies on the Chennai-Colombo route as Chennai is one of the fastest growing markets for the carrier.

The additional frequencies began operating from 16 August on Tuesday and will include Thursday and Sunday. The addition of this flight brings the total frequency of flights between Sri Lanka and India to 89 flights per week.

The purpose of re-launching these flights is to increase the frequency of the airline, providing passengers with added convenience.

Lalith De Silva, regional manager for India said, “Last year we had over 225,000 arrivals on SriLankan Airlines from Chennai to Colombo. It is certain that Chennai is our fastest growing market in Southern India. We see the market as a growing and crucial business hub for Multinationals. The addition in flights is a result of growing passenger traffic from this region.”

“The increased frequency also reinforces our commitment to Chennai and will strengthen the deep commercial and bilateral ties between India and Sri Lanka. With this infusion of additional frequencies, we will appeal to both business and leisure customers aiming to provide convenience and better connectivity,” De Silva added.
