SriLankan Airlines carries the 1.5 millionth tourist to the country

Achieving yet another milestone in Sri Lanka’s commercial aviation history, national carrier SriLankan Airlines brought the 1.5 millionth tourist to the island, last Sunday.

Accordingly, the milestone visitor, Torence Jimmy along with Qupika Hedwig, arrived in the island via SriLankan Airlines flight UL 558 from Frankfurt, Germany. They were warmly welcomed by the Sri Lankan airport staff and officials from the Sri Lankan Tourism Promotion Bureau.
Sri Lankan currently operates a total of 24 flights a week to five European destinations: the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Russia. The national carrier, together with its codeshare partners, currently has a connectivity map of 96 destinations in 44 countries across the globe.
According to Tourist Board statistics, Sri Lanka has received a total of 92,148 tourists from Germany this year, which is a 21.66% increase compared to 2013. The total number of tourist arrivals from Europe has increased up to 557, 297 compared to the last year’s total of 478,857.
