SriLankan Airlines received the title of Best Airline Operator from South Asia for an amazing sixth time, at the annual Kuala Lumpur International Awards 2011 which recognise the finest airlines operating into Malaysia.
SriLankan’s Head of Service Delivery Chanaka Olagama said, “SriLankan has won this award in six of the seven years that it has been presented. This is indeed an extraordinary achievement by our team in Kuala Lumpur and our worldwide sales team.”
Airlines are judged on a series of criteria which include passenger numbers, growth in passenger numbers, sales performance, international recognition and service performance.
SriLankan’s Regional Airport Service Manager – Pacific Rim and India Wajira Perera said, “Kuala Lumpur International Airport is one of the finest airports in the world, and SriLankan’s performance there is a clear indicator of our airline’s dedication to quality service.”
The KLIA Awards are presented by Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhard to honour all partners operating at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), including airlines (passenger, low cost and cargo), food & beverage outlets, and retail businesses.
SriLankan, which is a member-elect of the prestigious airline alliance oneworld, has a global route network of 60 destinations in 33 countries. It now has a relatively young and modern fleet with the addition of several new aircraft in 2011/12.
It operates Airbus A320 aircraft to between Kuala Lumpur and Colombo 14 times a week. SriLankan and Malaysia Airlines also code-share on each others’ flights.
Tourism between Sri Lanka and Malaysia is booming. Kuala Lumpur has long been a favourite destination among Sri Lankan leisure and business travellers, and there has also been a 31% growth in Malaysian arrivals to Sri Lanka in the first seven months of 2012.
