SriLankan commends progressive work of agents in USA and Canada

Commending the services of its agents in the USA and Canada, SriLankan Airlines held an Agents’ Awards Night at the Toronto Hilton recently. The event was organised to recognise the progressive performance of the airline’s agents for the financial year 2012/2013.
Speaking at length, enlightening the large travel trade gathering on the Airlines’ product enhancements, SriLankan Airlines Chairman Nishantha Wickremasinghe spoke about the plans for aircraft acquisition and on-going infrastructure development in Sri Lanka to boost inbound tourism. “Sri Lanka has been an effective gateway between Europe and beyond to South East Asia and the Far East. We have a perfect combination for a holiday with the world’s best beaches and oceans, nature, wellness and culture in a unique setting,” he added.
Wickremasinghe also emphasised, “Sri Lankans have put the past behind and continue to work towards reconciliation. The tourist arrivals reached an all-time high figure in 2012 exceeding projected targets and are currently expecting a double digit growth in 2013.”
Addressing the gathering, Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Canada, Chitranganee Wagiswara said, “SriLankan Airlines’ Canada office is well-poised to work with the tourism industry and progress is already being made in boosting inbound tourism to Sri Lanka from Canada and North America.”
Gold awards were presented to the top performing Agents – Upul’s Travel Service – USA and Jetspeed Travel & Tours Inc – Canada while Expedia – USA and Air Link Travel Ltd – Canada walked away with the silver awards. The winners of the Bronze Awards were Orbitz Worldwide – USA and Jet Travels – Canada.
The night was graced by a large gathering of diplomats, parliamentarians, airline officials, Canada Transport Agency, tour operators and a cross section of prominent community leaders. Among those present were Canada-Sri Lanka Parliamentary Friendship Group MP Chair Corneliu Chisu and Electoral District of Mississauga – Streetsville MP Brad Butt.
