On 1 February, Malaysia Airlines (MH) took its place as the 12th member of the world’s leading airline alliance oneworld, which brings some of the best and biggest airlines together.
“On behalf of SriLankan Airlines, I would like to extend our best wishes to the Chairman, CEO and the entire staff of Malaysia Airlines with whom we have had close bilateral ties for a number of years. As a member elect, preparing to join the alliance later, SriLankan looks forward to strengthen our association with Malaysia Airlines and become a stronger partner particularly in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Nishantha Wickremasinghe, Chairman, SriLankan Airlines.
Malaysia Airlines joins Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines, to become the third Asian airline to join oneworld. Adding MH to oneworld will greatly enhance oneworld’s offering throughout the world’s fastest growing Asia/Pacific region.
“With airlines increasingly focusing on joining alliances, it is timely that Malaysian has gained entry to the oneworld alliance and my congratulations for a successful collaboration, soon to be followed by SriLankan Airlines entry to oneworld,” said Kapila Chandrasena, Chief Executive Officer, SriLankan Airlines.
MH code-shares with SriLankan Airlines (UL) on its Kuala Lumpur, Sydney, Melbourne, and Jakarta routes, offering passengers a wider choice and better connections, especially for UL flights that connect to the European sectors. UL codeshares with MH on the Kuala Lumpur, Colombo, and Maldives sectors.
SriLankan Airlines operates a double daily service to Kuala Lumpur. The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has endorsed its operations by presenting the ‘Best Airline Operator for South Asia’ into KLIA award for five consecutive years, since 2006.
