The high standard of environmental performance practiced by Taj Samudra, Colombo has been recognized by EarthCheck, one of the world’s leading certifiers of travel and tourism organisations.
Taj Samudra, Colombo has joined industry leaders from more than 65 countries by being awarded EarthCheck Silver Certified status.
To gain this, Taj Samudra had to report their environmental footprint to independent auditors and adhere to internationally recognized standards of Best Practice.
During the process, the hotel was also required to submit a year’s worth of operational data which was benchmarked against industry Best Practice.
The data was then measured against a number of key indicators such as energy and water consumption, total waste production, and community commitment.
“Achieving certification is not an easy task and many organisations do not make it past the benchmarking stage. Securing a highly-ranked benchmarking result requires a strong commitment across all levels of an organization and the embedding of sustainability principles into all policies and procedures,” explained EarthCheck CEO Stewart Moore.
