Tamarind Hill Galle is now a Small Luxury Hotel of the World. For this colonial style boutique hotel built over 250 years ago, being selected to the elite club of SLH reinforces two elements at its core – exclusivity in stylish offerings and the understanding that luxury is personal and requires deep customisation.
Tamarind Hill was formerly a manor house built by a wealthy Sri Lankan aristocrat that gained most prominence when it was subsequently the residence of the British Admiral of the Peninsular and Orient Steam Navigation Company, the famed ‘P&O Line’. Through colonisation, Tamarind Hill stood accumulating the finest style and is to date one of the most illustrious buildings of its time.
Marvellous living is defined in each of Tamarind Hill’s 12 rooms and suites. Extravagant, with more than a touch of arrogance in the selection of great antiques, suites also feature a grand private balcony. The bathrooms epitomise the opulent lifestyle of this time with a claw-foot bathtub and an elaborate vanity counter. The Tamarind Hill exclusive butler service for suites allows guests to be drawn back to an era when the pleasures of elite living meant having your every need attended to.
With the luxury of space, the Crayford Rooms feature colonial furniture and a bathroom that is statement on its own. Unashamedly 21st century ingredients sit side by side with history at Tamarind Hill. In-room dining, complimentary Wi-Fi, LED screen TVs, a rain shower and superior bath amenities are just a few.
Tamarind Hill’s food and beverage bring to mind true gastronomy and fine dining developed in the wealthy social sphere during the 18th and 19th century. All this is expressed in elaborate cuisine, a wine list of hand selected names by our connoisseur and the ambience in the restaurant, bar and lounge.
Signature treatments at the spa, the infinity pool secluded by rich tropical foliage and the Gini Ganga that makes its meandering way by Tamarind Hill are all part of fine pleasures here. Tamarind Hill also offers captivating banquet experiences out in the breezy courtyard.
Reyhan Morris, Director, Asia Leisure had this to say: “Tamarind Hill’s entrance into the award winning portfolio of Small Luxury Hotels is one of the many impressive facets the group is currently engaged in.”
Speaking on the new property to open later this year, Morris added: “Taprobana, Wadduwa with its avant-garde design will bring to the island an innovative dimension for a new breed of global traveller.”
As with Tamarind Hill, River House and Shinagawa Beach, Asia Leisure is further geared to heighten its position as a group dedicated to creating awe-inspiring vacations.
